By week 26, the eyes can partially open — the eyelids that fused earlier in development are now separating. Fingernails are typically fully grown. The baby may respond to touch through the uterine wall. The fetus is roughly the size of a lettuce head. The brain is continuing to develop its complex structure rapidly.
